The casing assembly also contains acoustic liners to attenuate noise generated by the fan. The fan case also provides mounts for the gearbox, ground support equipment, and other accessories mounted on the accessories flange. It interfaces at its front flange with the nacelle and at its rear flange with the rear case (typically military) or with an OGV ring (typically high bypass civil). In some engines, the fan case is part of the engine mounting system and thus transmits thrust from the core engine to the aircraft. The casing therefore needs to have high strength and high ductility. The energy of a released fan blade is equivalent to a family saloon car at 100 kmh (60 mph). The casing must be capable of absorbing the energy of a complete fan blade, without releasing blade or case fragments, and maintain the integrity of the engine. The primary functions of the fan case are to form the outer gas path, and contain a fan blade should it disintegrate during flight. A 5% increase in C D is equivalent to approximately only a 0.5% increase in fuel consumption on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) but the NEDC only considers that the vehicle will be travelling above 70 kph (19 m/s) for a short period of the cycle.Ĭlaire Soares, in Gas Turbines (Second Edition), 2015 Fan Casing SAE recommends that C DW at vehicle highway speed is used for vehicle performance and economy predictions.įrom Table 2 it can be seen that C DW is between 3-5% higher than C D measured at straight ahead. More recently Cooper and Leuschen describe how some aerodynamic devices are sub-optimal because the effect of turbulence and wind direction has been ignored. The truck industry in North America has been aware of the need to characterize a vehicle’s behaviour in the natural environment for many years, as the rate of change of drag with yaw is approximately ten times that of saloon cars. It is the value of C DW that, potentially, most accurately reflects the performance of the vehicle in the real world.

It is clear that C DW should be calculated on an individual basis. Vehicles with a parabolic response show a C DW increase between 0.004 and 0.006, whereas those with a pronounced minima show a C DW increase between 0.010 and 0.015. From Figure 5, for example those vehicles with a 0° yaw drag coefficient of C D = 0.290 fall into two distinct groups depending on their C D yaw response. Sensitivity of Wind Averaged Drag (C DW) for Saloons and Sports Carsįor saloons and sports cars the sensitivity of wind averaged drag, taken as Δ(C DW - C D), becomes more pronounced as C D decreases. Originally players, would have to obtain at least, 2000 miles to get the vehicle, but as of the August 10th, 2018 racing update, you can now obtain it at Rank 40 on the Police Team.Īs of the mesh update, the staff Corvette was replaced with the SWAT van.Figure 5.
#CITY CAR DRIVING 1.4.1 CORVETTE UPDATE#
In the 2018 Remeshing Update, a public version of the Police Corvette was added to the update to help players on the Police Team chase down higher tier vehicles (ex. It was then removed sometime after the Mesh Update and the Racing Update. (Its public successors, the Police Corvette and Police Senna have lower top speeds). The staff corvette had a top speed of 225 MPH (362 KM/H), making it the fastest police car in game history. Staff units also carry the former Ultimate Driving logo, as well as "enforcement unit" instead of the public "police" markings. On the livery, you can see a shaped image of a satellite, known as the Orbital Ban Cannon. A custom delivery was designed by Matt to dedicate the official Ultimate Driving Space Agency. To make this police car exclusively special from the public marked police vehicles. Originally, it was planned to be public but the project was cancelled, then brought in to help enforce the rules.Īccording to Matt, this Corvette was developed with the Ultimate Driving Space Agency, which would be assigned to staff wishing to play on the police team, in addition to the public police vehicles other players can access. Regular players could not use this vehicle nor couldn't visibly see it in their police spawn list. Like said, this vehicle was exclusively used by in-game employees (moderators, developers, and admins) to help keep the in-game rules enforced. It was also announced by one the Board of Directors, Matt ( Zeffy94) on Twitter in December 2016.

This Corvette variant was technically known in-game as the Staffvette when only staff could drive it. Before the Vehicle Re-mesh update on January 4th, 2018, the UD team had access to a special police unit which was a modified Chevrolet Corvette only available on the Police Team.
